Module 6: Georeferencing, Editing, & 3D

Everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things.

Georeferencing, Editing, & 3D

Georeferencing, Editing and 3D is the last module before the Final Project. This week we are charged with Protecting the Eagle's Nest at UWF. Any good protection detail starts with location information.

I found the Georeferencing section of the lab to be one of the favorite skills I've learned. I did get caught up in wanting there to be as little RMS error as possible. Thankfully the perfectionist in me was able to pull an Elsa and let it go and still came out with RMS under 5 on everything.

Editing did give me a bit of grief. I'm still learning the best way to use the tools to draw a building but I did the best I could on one and then traced the first one to get complete coverage.

I used 2 inset maps to best describe the location of UWF Campus and the Eagle's Nest.

3D section was optional but a bit of fun. I made my buildings transparent so they look like little greenhouses all over campus - and yes, I'm a Hufflepuff. While the World Elevation3D/Terrain3D looked better with the Campus Aerials - I ultimately went with UWF_DEM for the more dramatic views on the elevation. Which if you ask anyone who has spent time walking around the UWF campus - the elevation is no joke.

We defined the protection zone, updated the maps with missing items, visualized the height of the buildings, and publicized our findings.
This Protection detail is officially closed. The Eagles are safe. For now.
